Orientation for New Faculty and Officers of Administration is an opportunity for all new faculty members and officers of administration (OAs) to receive pertinent information about the University, to be introduced to key individuals, and to meet new colleagues. This forum for new faculty members will address the multiple approaches to diversity across academic disciplines. Diversity is a central issue and a focus of study in some academic disciplines whereas it is at best peripheral in others. Does each discipline have a responsibility to address diversity? We will consider how different disciplines attach meaning and value to diversity, looking at areas of overlap as well as possible misunderstanding. This is a panel discussion. Panel members tba.

PROMOTION AND TENURE: AN INTRODUCTION FOR UNTENURED FACULTY

This workshop is provided for new faculty as a segment of the orientation process. It will address general promotion and tenure matters for untenured faculty. Aimed at tenure-related faculty, this workshop will help still untenured faculty understand the promotion and tenure process at the University of Oregon and how to orient research, teaching, and service to avoid problems down the line.

VIOLENCE IN THE ACADEMIC WORKPLACE
TBD for late fall
This workshop will be held in two parts and new faculty members will be encouraged to participate in both segments. The first will cover University of Oregon preventative measures and what is in place to deal with unusual situations or patterns of behavior that raise concern. The second will cover the difficult issues in the immediate moments of an active shooter or someone causing intentional harm. Discussion will include the different acts and decisions that may affect health and survival under these extreme conditions.
